Better late than never – Christmas Traditions

Although it is well past the holiday season, I just can’t move forward into the New Year without paying tribute to my favorite time of the year. My favorite part of the Holiday Season is the Christmas traditions that my family and I share. From tree decorating to Christmas Eve parties, these traditions have been ingrained in my memory. There’s a certain feeling attached to these memories – one of nostalgia.

My mother absolutely loves the colors of pink and green – something that seems to have been passed down a generation. So naturally, our tree is a Victorian one, decorated with pink and green tones, handmade ornaments and bows. When my parents were first married, my mom and dad made these lace ornaments together as well as the miniature houses.

Each room in the house has a tree and mine is a miniature version of the main one.

Another holiday tradition is the Christmas Eve party that my Gammy hosts at her house. Ever since I can remember, she’s held the party for her family and friends. In the past, my Gammy and I would spend days making the wonderful holiday goodies for the party. I absolutely loved spending time with her in the kitchen because she would share stories about the recipes and her own childhood Christmas. Below are just a few of the wonderful goodies that she makes.

This past year, she said that my grandfather loved to be the taste tester and try all of her goodies as soon as she was finished making them. “Pappy always loved to be around when I was baking.” One of his favorites was my Gammy’s rum cake featured below.

As the Christmas season has come and gone, I’m looking forward to the New Year!
