a boone birthday

Hi friends!

It’s been such a long time since I’ve hopped on here to chat about what we’ve been up to. I guess that’s because 2020 has been a bittersweet year. I started writing and posting pictures through this platform because I loved getting to share our fun adventures. This year, the adventures look a little bit different. They were few and far in between – understandably so. But we still found ways to celebrate life. After losing 3 loved family members this year, we were reminded how precious life is. And in return, how important making memories together can be.

So without further ado… let’s talk about our Boone Birthday celebration for my favorite. G turned 29 (yay!) in early December and a trip was the perfect gift! We invited my best girl + her husband along for the adventure. After brainstorming some different locations – Helen, Savannah, Charleston … we landed on Boone. None of us had ever been before, but friends and family had recommended the area.

Once the location was set, the details all came together. We rented through Valle Crucis Log Cabins – our cabin was fully stocked and ready for us when we arrived. The location was perfect; few minutes away from Boone and then a nice drive to Blowing Rock.

We loved getting to explore during the day and return back for a night in front of the fire. The cabin came complete with plenty of fire wood, comfy bedding and scenic views. THE best part – instant heat + hot showers… it’s the little things that can make a girl happy.

Know what else makes a girl happy? Days spent exploring and shopping! Which is exactly how we spent our trip – from shopping downtown to walking trails. One of my favorite stores included the Mast General Store, so many fun finds that made their way back home as Christmas gifts.

And of course we ate. I mean, we practically planned our days around meals. I fell in love with Stick Boy – delicious baked goods ranging from cookies to pie. And yes, we got about 1 of everything. I couldn’t help myself. The Pedalin Pig came highly recommended – did not disappoint. And then we ended the trip with a visit to the Awful House… I mean, Waffle House. I was outvoted but will never be swayed from my beloved Huddle House (best. diner. ever.)

As for G’s birthday … well it snowed! My first time seeing snow did not disappoint – we played, we froze and then we defrosted in front of the fire. To celebrate, we visited Lost Province Brewing and Blowing Rock Brewing. And ended the day with a decorated cabin, off-tune singing (me) and a steak dinner (courtesy of Joey). Oh, and a notorious Monopoly game… I’m still bitter about my loss.

I can’t lie, reminiscing about our adventure brought a smile to my face! I already miss the cold weather… but I’m happy to be back in the cold that’s a Florida winter. I probably wouldn’t have survived staying any longer.
