Valentine’s Day is probably one of my favorite holidays to celebrate. It comes right after my birthday so I always feel like it’s another excuse to treat myself. The holiday also has all of my favorite things: hearts, pink, red, more hearts, friendship, oh and love (duh). I wanted to share some quick DIY craft ideas in case you’re in a rush to send out gifts to your favorite people.
This year I celebrated my 24th birthday with a crafty party complete with sweet friends, good food + DIY projects. I love planning parties that allow for great conversation and take-home favors.
This past weekend I received the best surprise – a visit from one of my favorite girls! I so value and cherish the friendships I’ve made throughout the years. For me, I feel the most grounded when I know my relationships are being nurtured. And whether they’re maintained through physical gestures, random phone calls, FaceTime, letters or even trips, they mean the absolute world to me.
I first met Lis back in middle school, and we’ve been close friends ever since! Have you ever met someone you just instantly clicked with? Well, that’s my Lis. We had to celebrate her impromptu trip to Gainesville with all of our favorite things. From eating exploring downtown to picking out the perfect bottle of wine, we had the perfect girls’ night!
We also did some crafting while catching up with each other’s lives. That’s why I love having craft supplies on hand – just for moments like these. A canvas makes the perfect craft because you get to personalize it while still creating a memory together. Now whenever I catch a glimpse of the canvas, it instantly takes me back to laughs from the weekend.
I have to admit – I’ve been somewhat absent from blogging this past month. It seems that whenever I sit down to blog or an idea comes to mind, something else will pop-up. I’m beginning to realize that’s just the way life is sometimes! So I’ve decided to try something new where I blog every week about some of my favorite things. Naturally, I had to come up with a fun concept.
For this Monday LoweDown (see what I did there), I’m talking all the things I’m loving this week as well as some things I’m looking forward to!
If you’re a lover of the late 18th century British period, then this show is for you! It’s a PBS Masterpiece series based on the novels by Winston Graham. The plot is amazing – filled with action, drama and romance. I binge-watched the entire first season during a weekend this summer. Naturally, I immediately fell in love and began counting down 3 months in advance til the next premiere. I was so giddy for the Season 2 premiere here in the states this past Sunday. You can catch the next episode on Sunday at 8pm on your local PBS station.
2. New Do + DIY Blowout
I can’t be the only one who gets slightly paranoid when getting a haircut by a new person. There’s just something so special about placing your trust in a random person’s hands. I recently decided to bite the bullet and get my hair done here in Gainesville – I usually wait till I get back home but my hair desperately needed it. Needless to say, I met my guardian hair angel in the Mia and Maxx salon. Seriously, she brought my hair back to life with a couple of snips and bangs!
To keep the look going, I’ve been using these blowout hacks from The Beauty Department:
If you’re a lover of Chip and Joanna Gaines, then this news is going to make your day! It looks like they just released 125 new paint colors today to join their other shades. I’ve already selected the ones I love: the Cabbage Rose and Pink Lemonade.
And while you’re browsing the site, you might as well check-out their entire goods selection! I’ve been in love with this leather tote bag ever since I first spotted it!
I cannot resist any movie that has the following: a Western theme, gorgeous men and a kick-ass lady lead. I absolutely loved this remake of the 1960s film. Like any Western movie, the ending will pull at your heart… but it’s so worth the watch!
5. Baked Apple Cider Donuts + Brown Butter Glaze
You know it’s Fall when all the apple cider and pumpkin desserts start to flood Pinterest. This recipe recently came across my timeline and I am determined to make these this weekend! It’s literally what dreams are made of: donuts, apple cider, butter, donuts. And yes, donuts is listed twice, because donuts. Really, how can you go wrong?! Thanks Camille Styles for gracing us with this recipe! Image below is snagged from her site as well.
My favorite part about a new school year is the amazing selection of planners to choose from! I absolutely love all types of planners: pre-made, DIY, bullet journaling, etc. the list is endless. I’ve tried an assortment of agendas and planners throughout the years, but this year’s seems to take the cake!
I found this Create 365 Happy Planner about a month ago at Michaels and absolutely fell in love. I’m a sucker for pastels and flowers – so this planner is pretty much the best of both! Michaels is having this great deal right now where you can get all your planner goods for buy one, get one 50% off. I went a little planner happy this weekend and still managed to stay under budget!
The thing I love about this planner is that it combines both pre-made and DIY elements. You can use the planner as is or add embellishments like I did. You can really add anything to make this planner your own. When I have a planner that is cute and enticing, I am more motivated to use it and stay on track. I’m one of those folks who HAS to write everything down otherwise I’ll forget. So a paper planner is the one for me!
Here’s a list of some planners I’ve used throughout the years (and one on my wish list):
This design was the first Lilly Planner I owned, and I absolutely loved it! Naturally, the fact that it was also pink made my decision. Every day reminded me of summertime with its bright colors and flowers.
How adorable is this agenda?! When this design came out back in July I immediately fell in love, but thought it might be too small for my busy schedule. I definitely plan to purchase for next year once I’m done with school.
3. May Designs
This is another planner that reminds me of a mix between pre-made and DIY. This is the planner I used last year, and it was wonderful. I loved the customization of choosing a pattern and placing my monogram on it. I was often challenged by the size because I had a lot to write, but overall it’s in the top 5!
Of course I had to include Target in my list of planners! I’ve been loving the Day Designer ones they’ve carried in recent years. The one above is from this year’s collection. I had a similar patterned one last year that I absolutely loved. The design was perfect and the price was right in my budget. Unfortunately halfway through the year it got soaked, so I had to switch over to the May Designs one.
